A day

Disclaimer: Following article has been written at the time when author was desperately in need of sleep and had no idea how to write a proper sentence so read it at your own risk.

Seems like Dubai Part - II wont come any time sooner, I have got myself a busy schedule ahead for next 3-4 days aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. One mehendhi, One Dinner, One Carting Session and One Valima to attend in four nights. Its 4:30 AM right now(just got up after watching Bourne Supremacy, old movie but havent seen it before and damn it was good) and I got work in 5 hours sheesh when will I goto bed and when will I get up, God help me. Another sleepy session at work coming up. My cousin is here from States for summers. Since his flat is just two blocks away, most of the time he is found here in our apartment. Another cousin of mine is here since yesterday, so MashAllah say our apartment feels crowded again. I had already planed to take them both for bowling in the new alley which has opened recently quite close to us in millennium and today it was the day .Boy was it fun? An hour of play worth two games, too much excitement, tension and thrill.
I wasn’t up to mark in the first game way off target, first four shots were straight in gutters. Gradually I started to get the hang of it and best came in the second game. In game 2 from the beginning I was in slight lead, later on Sadiq(cousin from Karachi) hit 1 strike and 1 spare to reach the total of 88. When my last turn began I was on 74 and definitely needed a strike. And yes first shot was sssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIKKKKKKEEEEEEEEE. That was one, still needed a good score in next 2 shots, first one was good 7 pins down, last shot 3 to go and Yessssssssss a spare :D. my final score was 91 and had won by 3 points on last shot :D. Aazim (cousin from states) ended up on 70 and was pretty depressed about it. Anyhow it was fun, later when we got home I made them Banana-Mango Smoothie and it turned out quite well. It was the first time I have tried mango in place of strawberries and it came out well. Now I am thinking of a variation of pinacolada lets c. so anyways fellas its 5:00 AM now, time for fajr prayers and then 2 hours and 30 minutes sleep. Untill I post again, enjoy your time and take good care!!!!

- - -

I just can’t get one thing, where it is written in Quran or Hadiths that while performing ablution the more you spilt water on persons sitting next to you more pure you will get or maybe more blessings you will get. Nothing pisses me off more than having been splashed with water coming from both sides while performing ablution at a common place.

Dubai - Part I

On Monday 27th of June Pakistan’s sole internet backbone link went down and for twp days we remained offline. Since most of our office work is solely dependent on net so we were in quite a miserable situation. On Tuesday management asked for our passports and on Wednesday at 5 PM I was informed that I will be flying to Dubai that night at 10:30 PM. It was so urgent that I even couldn’t go home, get my stuff and meet mom. Said goodbyes on phone and went to the airport around 9ish PM. It was my second trip to Dubai first was being in Dec 2000 when I went there to appear in a job hiring Interview for Microsoft, couldn’t make it though :( and still curse myself for missing that opportunity (but that discussion is for some other day). This time it was more of an official trip and I had a company of my Department head or shud we say it was other way around, he had me as a company.

For some obvious reasons it was my job to communicate with everyone, so right when we landed at Dubai international airport till we landed back To Jinnah Terminal I was the “interpreter” :P. anyways we were booked in Hotel JW Marriot, it was a five star hotel and sure lived up to its ratings. Most importantly it had a very speedy internet connection and made our lives easy. I don’t think I should write about what I did each day that will make it a boring post, shud had done that from there but that wasn’t possible. So will it a general description.

Since we had serious shortage of cloths so right on the night we landed, we headed for this departmental store which was supposed to have good discounts and stays open quite late, got the basic stuff from there. Headed back to the hotel, got the internet up and running, after couples of hours of work headed for dinner. Next day went to this newly built huge mall in Jumeirah named after the great explorer Ibn-e-Batuta. Actually it is divided into six halls each hall carrying a theme of one country, like there is this Chinese hall completely based on Chinese architecture, then there is Indian hall and rest are Egyptian, Spanish, Persian and Tunisian, They say it takes about 2 hours or more to roam about in all the halls. It took us an hour to finish Egyptian, India and Chinese one. From inside the architecture was amazing too, walls carrying the theme from outside, sculptures at places, artificial sky line and well planned shops placement, just too perfect. But the shops were damn expensive all braaaanded suff. Anyhow I wished I had a camera with me but sigh couldn’t get it from home, my boss wasn’t in favor of buying one and I really don’t call my cell phone cam as a camera.

Next there days were spent visiting cinemas and watching three back to back movies that included Pehali, Batman Begins(On Imax technology) and Dus. And of 3 only Batman was any worthwhile watching especially the effects on Imax were awesome. Read about Imax on the link given before, I would just say it gives a sense of depth to the scene and it is mostly used for educational purposes, in Dubai they just have one huge screen using this technology and I was there experiencing it all :D. There is still lots to write about and I shall continue it later(very soon don’t worry fellas), till then bye bye take care and May God bless you and your families.

Back

So after almost like 20 days I will be updating this blog and there is a major reason behind it. I wasn’t in the country. Yea the fiber optic cut off brought our office work to stand still (medussa and Om will know all about it) and I along with my department head was sent to Dubai so we could carry out tasks from there and flow of work can be continued even if things are bit out of pace. I shall write about Tour de Dubai next, and in this post will write a bit about that tape ball tourney.

Alright so after surviving on the last ball of the first match and getting a serious scare in the next we were able to march to the finals. Anddddddddd in the finals registered a comprehensive win to become the Champions, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay(too late to cheer yea I know). The tourney was great, we (organizers) received tremendous positive feedback and encouragement for more. It had drama, thrill, excitement, energy, joy, disappointment and a touch of controversy (last thing I wanted) too. But thanks God no regrettable incident occurred and everything went on smoothly. Spectators too were in full mood, some had done face painting, and some were carrying creatively made banners. All in all atmosphere was buzzing with the excitement.

Our first match started around 9:00, 9:30 at night. We managed to tie that match on the last ball where we felt our dreams almost got shattered. Next match was all the same thrilling too which was won in the last over again. Though we were expected to win both of those matches quite easily, but contrary to the expectations our team never got clicked and we got barely win those based on some individual brilliances and oppositions lack of keeping the nerves. Since we had tied our first match we had to replay a short match with that team and won that quite comprehensively. I played well in all those 3 matches taking some wickets but still went for few more run than I would have liked. Anyways in the next round lost our first match and we had to win the next match and win it with some margin. That is where the controversy kicked in, we were not given correct margin to win and later when we won on that margin the next day I discovered it wasn’t the correct margin and we shouldn’t have played the finals. Anyways since we had won on the given conditions so we proceeded to the final. But that match also ruined my night a bit when I went for hell lot of runs in a single over(OM shaap :P). I think I got tired and there wasn’t any steam left in me so went for easy pickings, but the major loss my hammering caused was if I had given a few lesser runs we would have been in finals fair and square and there would not have been any controversy. So I feel the guilty party behind all this and still regret it, but I guess it was all fate.

Anyhow few days after tourney, the fiber optic cable which was providing Pakistan its main internet back bone line was cut off deep in ocean and it left majority of us without any connection to the outside world. As I had mentioned above that event brought a halt to our on going projects and maintenance tasks and some alternative was desperately needed. So it was decided until we get our backup internet link up and running some of us should be sent to Dubai so that work can be restored and damage can be minimized, that’s where my ten trip to the desert land began and I shall write about it soon….

And yea one more thing there is a new blogger in the blog world, He is my bestest buddy and a brother to me so Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Ather Haleem. Mind you he is one busy man and he will update quite rarely but it should be fun reading him.
